Obituary for Samuel Wellington Jones, Jr.
Samuel Wellington Jones, Jr., aged 72, passed away in his home on September 12th.  Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Wellington Jones and Margaret Pearman Jones of Emporia, VA.  He grew up in Jarratt and Emporia and attended MCV where he received his BS in Pharmacy. He then attended VCU where he earned his PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.  Upon graduation from college he worked at Jones Drug Store in Emporia. He assisted in establishing the pharmacy department at Greensville Memorial Hospital which became Southside Virginia Regional Medical Center. He was employed there for 39 years prior to retiring and moving to New Bern, NC.  Sammy was known for his wit, his friendly manner and his enjoyment of everyone.  He loved to laugh and to make others laugh, too.  Sammy is survived by his loving wife, Julia Lewis Jones and three brothers, John P. Jones and wife, Peggy; Walter V. Jones and wife, Dianne; and Thomas B. Jones and wife, Sue. In addition he is survived by 10 nieces and nephews and 25 great nieces and nephews.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Richard’s Catholic Church in Emporia, VA on  September 14 at 11:00 a.m. with interment following in Emporia Cemetery.  A reception will follow at the church.  In lieu of flowers Sammy has requested that memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, P.O.
