Obituary for Rufus (R.J.) James Lundy
Rufus James Lundy (R.J.), 84, peacefully passed away on Sunday morning, September 20, 2015. His is now with the Lord and will be laid to rest at 2 PM on Saturday, September 26, at Independence United Methodist Church, 4438 Independence Church Rd., Emporia, VA 23847 (located at Independence Church Rd. and Dry Bread Rd. Emporia, VA). R.J. was born in Emporia, Virginia on December 28, 1930, to the late William Turner Lundy III and Lelia Newsome Lundy. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after serving 20 years. He then worked for the City of Portsmouth, VA, retiring after 20 years. Left to cherish his memory and his wife of 67 years, Gertrude Lundy; son, James Walter Lundy (Karen) of New Bern NC; daughter, Judy Ann Krajewski (J. Phillip) of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Terry Allison, Jr. (LeShea) of Chesapeake, VA; David J. Allison (Amanda) of Chesapeake, VA; James Matthew Lundy (Mallory) of Jacksonville, NC; Janet Gotlieb (Joshua) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Kathryn A. Krajewski of St. Charles, IL; greatgrandchildren, Alex and Carter Allison, Julie and Justin Allison, Dylan Lundy, Dominic and Sophie Gotlieb. He is survived by his brother, Russell A. Lundy (Betty) of Emporia, VA; and sister-in-law, Shirley Lundy of Broadnax, VA and many nieces and nephews. R.J. was preceded in death by his brothers, William Turner Lundy IV (Louise) and Moses T. Lundy, and his sisters, Irene L. Brown (Vernon), Fannie L. Bowen (Frank), Cora L. Britton (Russell), Katherine L. Sadler (Younger) and Ellen L. Buckner (Ben). R.J. will be deeply missed by his family who would like to thank the kind and considerate care afforded by Freda H. Gordon Hospice & Palliative Care of Tidewater and Leigh Hall Memory Care Unit in Norfolk, Virginia. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, any remembrances may be mailed to the Treasurer, Independence United Methodist Church, 5066 Independence Church Road, Emporia, VA 23847.
