Paula Joyner Ligon,73, passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2025. She was a lifelong resident of Emporia, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Randolph (Randy) and Pauline Joyner. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Randolph (Randi) of Raleigh, NC and uncle, Fritz Scholz. She also adored her many cousins; Wayne Skinner (Sandra), Willis Abernathy (Renee), Leah Luongo (Bruce), Andrew (Alex), Stephen (Amanda), Hope, Jeremy and Carson Abernathy, Michael (Sam) Luongo, Sue and Carol.
Paula attended Greensville County Schools, ultimately graduating from Loudon County High School in 1970 and Virginia Commonwealth University in 1974. She later earned her Master's of Education from Old Dominion University.
Paula was a member of Monumental United Methodist Church, Junior Woman’s Club, a Merle Norman Studio owner and a real estate agent, all while having Paula’s Playhouse, a private preschool where she was fondly known as “Miss Paula”. Later she continued her teaching career at Greensville Elementary School where she found her work family.
Paula was known to many as a fun-spirited, sassy, compassionate individual. She will forever be remembered for her 50-year legacy of educating children in Emporia/Greensville County.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April17 from 5pm to 7pm at Echol’s Funeral Home, 806 Brunswick Avenue, Emporia, VA.
Funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, April 18 at Greensville Elementary School, 1101 Sussex Drive, Emporia, VA, with burial to follow at Emporia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Monumental United Methodist Church in Emporia or Greensville Volunteer Fire Department or Rescue Squad.
