Obituary for Patricia Mitchell May
Patricia Mitchell May, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away in her home on February 16, 2013. Pat was predeceased by her parents, Roy Mercer Mitchell and Clara Phillips Mitchell, of Ante, Virginia. Pat is survived by her three children, Benjamin Winters May, Lauren Constance Elizabeth May Langston and son-in-law Michael Langston, and Joshua William May and daughter-in-law Thelma May. Pat is also survived by her former husband and father of her children, Joseph W. May and his loving family. Other survivors include Pat’s sister, Judy Mitchell and her husband Stanford Lee Vassar, Jr., their sons Mitch Vassar and wife Nora and Greg Vassar and wife Paige; grand-nephews Evan, Stanford and Finley Vassar. Survivors also include cousins who were like sisters, Janice Malone Palmer and husband Roger and Marsha Malone Sampson and husband Jim, niece Ashlyn Sampson and nephew Dustyn Sampson. She is also survived by cousins Belinda Mitchell Michaels and Kay Clay Herman who were especially supportive. Other surviving family members include uncles and aunts, Jerry and Nell Mitchell, Jimmie and Jean Clay, Milton and Betty Phillips, Jesse and Jackie Phillips, J.P. and Marie Bowen, Ethel Gauldin, Nellie Roberts and many other loving family members. Pat leaves behind her wonderful and supportive friends Anne Hamilton and Kaye Blair. And last, but not least, her beloved dog and ever-present companion that she spoiled rotten, Ziggy! Pat attended Gunston School in Centreville, Maryland, Old Dominion University and Virginia Commonwealth University. Pat spent most of her professional career in sales and marketing and was recognized on numerous occasions for her achievements and accomplishments. Pat’s passions in life were her children, her family, her friends, travel and spending time at any beach! Her sparkling eyes and ever-present smile will be missed. A memorial service for Patricia Mitchell May will be held at Echols Funeral Home in Emporia, Virginia. The family will receive friends at Echols Funeral Home at 6:30-8:30 pm on Friday, February 22. Services will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 23. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Ante, Virginia. The family has requested that memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice of Virginia, 1700 Bayberry Ct., Suite 300, Richmond, Virginia, 23226.
