Obituary for Nicholas Doyle Yates

Nicholas Doyle Yates, 90, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. A proud veteran, Nicholas served as a tank commander in the Army during the Korean War, exemplifying courage, and dedication to his country.

Nicholas was a devoted father to his three daughters, Tracey Talbert (David), Caroline Stussie (Brandon), and Christine Marsh Mc Keel (Wally), who cherished his guidance and support throughout their lives. He was also a beloved grandfather to two granddaughters, Tristen and Mallory Talbert, two grandsons; Riley Stussie and Lawson Marsh and a proud great-grandfather to one great-grandson, Jackson MacNaughton, who brought immense joy to his later years. He is survived by two sisters, Peggy Kutsmeda and Macy Marnon. Nicholas was proceeded in death by his brothers JT, Marion, Earl, Jimmy, and Bobby Yates.

After a rewarding career of over 30 years, Nicholas retired from El Campo Aluminum, a division of Reynolds Metal Company. He began his career with Reynolds Metal in Richmond, VA, and later moved to El Campo, Texas where he lived until his retirement. His commitment to his work and his family was unwavering.

Following retirement, Nicholas returned to his family roots on Lake Gaston in Gasburg, VA where he was close with his remaining brothers and sisters and where he enjoyed being on the water, hunting and golfing. It was there that he met the love of his life, Emily Peace. They enjoyed 20+ years of travel, dinners, and dancing. Through that love, Nicholas was blessed with the love of all those in Emily’s family including children and grandchildren. Nicholas resided on Lake Gaston for 26 years before moving to Manorhouse Independent Living in Glen Allen, VA. His oldest daughter Tracey and her family were blessed to have him so close during the last 5 years with frequent visits and celebrations. Nicholas made many friends at Manorhouse amongst the residents but was also loved and adored by their staff. The family will forever be grateful for the care and support of the Manorhouse staff and nurses during his time there as well as during his final days. Additional gratitude is expressed to those who cared for him over the last year through Suncrest Hospice and Senior Insights.

Nicholas leaves behind a family that will forever honor his memory and the values he instilled in them. His warmth, generosity, and genuine kindness served as a guiding light to those fortunate enough to know him, and his warm smile brightened the lives of many. He is loved beyond measure and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
