Obituary for Irene Whitley Pearson
Irene “Pat” Whitley Pearson of Emporia passed away Monday, October 21st surrounded by her children. She was 74 years old. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Joe & Julia (Wallace) Whitley. Survivors include her son, Herman “Ned” & Amy Pearson of New Kent, VA; her daughter, Julia Pearson of Colonial Heights, VA; grandchildren Brandon , Corryn and Bonnie; great-grandchildren Jewlya and Cheyenne; brother Reese & Bonnie Whitley of Bedford, VA; sister Brenda & Vyron Klassen of Placentia, CA; brother Joe Whitley, Jr. of Emporia; and several nieces and nephews.
Pat was born in Iaeger, West Virginia. Much of her childhood was spent in Page & Oakwood, VA where her father was the General Store Manager of the Coal Company Store in the coal camp. She graduated from James Madison College (University) and Southside Virginia Community College. She retired from both the Independent Messenger and Greensville/Emporia Social Services. At the time of her death, she was employed part-time with the Independent Messenger for another ten years. She was an amazing woman who was always doing nice things for others. She considered her children her greatest accomplishments in life. Pat was an avid reader and loyal Duke basketball fan. She will be missed immensely by all that knew and loved her. Pat’s family will receive family and friends at Echols Funeral Home Chapel, Emporia, VA on Saturday October 26th at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service following at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Greensville County Volunteer Rescue Squad or Main Street Methodist Church.
