Obituary for George Raymond Crews, Jr.
George Raymond Crews Jr., 77, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
George was born in Martinsville, VA on May 5, 1945, to George and Myrtle Crews. George loved the game of golf and made it his profession as he was a PGA Professional and a certified Golf Course Superintendent. After serving in the U.S. Army, George returned to Virginia to pursue his career at Danville Golf Club, Halifax Country Club, Green’s Folly Golf Course and then settling at Emporia Country Club where he retired after 21 years. George made a lifetime of friends and will be truly missed by all.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George Crews Sr. and Myrtle Crews and brother John Crews. He is survived by his loving wife Betty Lou Crews; daughter Kelly Crews Smith; son Ray Crews (Ayn Crews); grandchildren, Emerson and Holden Crews; siblings Jackie Ward (Dick) and Judy Crews; nieces and nephews, Leslie Ward, Mary Wilkinson, Mike Batchelor, Scott Crews, Darrell Crews and Jeff Crews.
The family would like to thank his care team at VCU Massey Cancer Center.
A celebration to honor George’s life will be held at Emporia Country Club (Emporia, VA) on January 8th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Emporia Country Club Junior Golf Program, 578 Country Club Rd. Emporia, VA 23847.
