Obituary for Ernest Hope Rawlings, Jr.
Ernest H. Rawlings, Jr., 78, of Church St. in Emporia, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at his home. In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his sister, Alice Sue Hilty. Surviving are his loving wife, Ruby Rawlings of the home; brother, Herbert B. Rawlings of Emporia; son, Barry Dunn and wife Stacy of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Nash Dunn and Lance Dunn; and one nephew and three nieces. Rawlings was born June 1, 1935, to Ernest H. Rawlings, Sr. and Virginia Rawlings. A longtime farmer of the Adams Grove area, Rawlings was also a U.S. Army veteran and a local gardener known by some as "The Rose Man." Rawlings was a member of the Adams Grove Grizzard Ruritan Club and the Adams Grove Hunt Club. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Adams Grove Baptist Church.
