Obituary for Elsie Tucker Echols
Elsie Tucker Echols, 95, of Emporia passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus A. Echols, Jr. She is survived by her daughter L. Dale Echols Temple and grandson Brandon Temple. She was the owner of Echols Funeral Home in Emporia, VA and Wrenn, Clarke and Hagan Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. She served as the Director of the Service Sorority of Beta Sigma Phi Emporia Chapter since 1982, longtime member and choir member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Riparian Women’s Club, Emporia Garden Club, Girl Scout Leader, and she joined the Emporia Chapter #46 of the Order of the Eastern Star of the Grand Chapter of Virginia in 1949. She served as Worthy Matron twice as well as being an Instructor for the Chapter in 1965. During her 64 years as a very active member she traveled through the state of Virginia to many official visits and was Grand Page in two grand sessions. Her sisterly and friendly countenance will be sorely missed. She was a true friend and confidant. A visitation will be held Tuesday, 5-7pm, at Echols Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, 1pm, in Emporia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Emporia Volunteer Fire Department, Greensville Volunteer Rescue Squad or to an animal shelter of your choice. Condolences may be sent to www.Echolsfuneralhome.comÂ
