In Loving Memory of Edith Cash Newsome
Edith Cash Newsome, of Emporia, Virginia, departed this world at the age of 81 on September 25, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Edith retired as an admired and respected civilian government employee, serving in various roles, both in the United States and overseas, allowing her to remain at her husband’s side throughout his many tours of duty in the military.
Edith shared a profound connection with her lifelong husband and partner, John Alvis Newsome, Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army (Ret). During their retired years, they settled back in their hometown of Emporia, Virginia and continued to enjoy travelling together. Their journey together was marked by shared adventures, laughter, and unwavering support. Though John has preceded her in death, the love they shared will endure in the hearts of all who knew them.
She was blessed with two loving daughters, Kimberly Fritz of Biloxi, Mississippi and Pamela Allen of Emporia, Virginia, and her sons-in-law, Michael Fritz and Mickey Allen. She found joy in her role as a mother, and as a grandmother to her eight adoring grandchildren: Crystal Carpenter, Lauren Aldridge, Jessica Geoffroy (Matthew), Katelyn Malone, Staff Sergeant Stephen Malone, Michael Fritz (Catherine), Kevin Allen (Loren), and Nicholas Allen, and great-grandchildren: Matthew Geoffroy, Jr. and Thomas Geoffroy. Her love and devotion will forever shape their lives, and her memory will remain a source of inspiration.
Edith was a woman who understood the value of sisterhood and the importance of family ties. She is survived by her sister, Ann Crewe, whose companionship brought warmth and laughter to her life.
She is preceded in death by her beloved parents: father, Willis Herman Cash and mother, Imogene Frances Midkiff.
Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects at First Presbyterian Church, 210 S. Main St., Emporia, VA, where the family will receive guests at 11am Monday October 2, 2023. The service will follow at 12 PM, for celebration and remembrance of Edith's life.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
