Obituary for Charles Irvin Grigg
Charles “Irvin” Grigg, Sr., age 95, of Emporia, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023. He joins his wife of 70 years, Betty Ann Grigg in their heavenly home.
Irvin was born on November 2, 1927 in Purdy, VA to the late Marion Lee Grigg and Pat Lou Neville Grigg. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Grigg Horne (Meade); son Charles Irvin Grigg, Jr. (Susan); grandchildren, Charles Jefferson Berkeley Horne (Emily), Murphy Horne Fletcher (Milton), Charles Irvin Grigg, III and Elizabeth Grigg Brown (Patrick); great-grandchildren, Meade Burwell Berkeley Horne, Charlotte Louise Horne, Harper Ann Brown, Hendry Archibald Jefferson Horne and Avery Murphy Brown. In addition to his parents and wife, Irvin was preceded in death by his siblings, Marion Lee Grigg, Jr., Walter Allen Grigg, Sr., Lucille G. Goodwyn, Virginia G. Griffin, Charlotte G. Watkins and Captain William Hunter Grigg.
Irvin attended Greensville County High School before attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War, stationed in Iceland. He went to work for Home Telephone and Telegraph, now known as Verizon, as an Engineer. He and his brother, Bill formed Grigg Construction and Development. He was devoted member of Main Street Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held at 11a.m. Friday, April 7, at Emporia Cemetery.
