Reid, Cecil Alexander, Jr., 92, of Emporia, VA., passed away on June 15, 2023. Mr. Reid was the son of the late Cecil A. Reid, Sr. and Dorothy Gay Reid. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Edward Reid and a sister, Virginia Reid Lee. He received his B.A. Degree in 1952 from Randolph-Macon College, Ashland, VA. and received a M.A. Degree in 1954 from Peabody/Vanderbilt University in Nashville, T.N.
For 35 years he was a librarian in West Virginia, Georgia, and Virginia. Upon retirement he returned to Emporia and opened an antique shop, Reid’s of Emporia, which he operated for 15 years. He was active in the Greensville County Historical Society and was instrumental in the funding of the Emporia-Greensville County Museum. Mr. Reid is survived by a great-niece, Jan-Lee C. Smith and her husband Bryan, a great-great nephew, Stuart Reid Harrell, and a great-great- niece, Virginia Blair Harrell.
A graveside service will be held at Emporia Cemetery on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Penny Rasnake officiating.
