Obituary for Carl B Rae

Carl Bruce Rae, Jr., age 84, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, after a long illness.

He was the son of the late Carl Bruce Rae, Sr., and Vera Osterberg Rae of Emporia, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia Araway, and his brother Richard Rae. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda Bradley Rae; his son, John Rae (Wendy), his daughter Carol Sundstrom (Paul) and five grandchildren; Coen Sundstrom, Sven Sundstrom, Leah Rae, Stephan Rae, and Robert Rae. For Carl, Family was everything.

Carl was a graduate of Greensville County High School and the National Radio Institute. He was one of the first in VIrginia to earn the Certified Electronics Technician (CET) Degree.

Carl was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church in Emporia, Virginia, serving in numerous capacities such as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Sound and Video Coordinator, and Chairman of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee.

Carl was President of Rae’s TV and Music from 1962-2005. He attributed his 43 years of successful business to his loyal customers, whom he considered his friends.

Carl was a charter member of the Emporia Greensville Rescue Squad and served in many capacities for 13 years.

Carl was a man of many talents. He enjoyed playing, designing, and building electric guitars. He also loved designing and building a 1934 Ford Hot Rod. Carl was a founding member of the Virginia Wheels Car Club in Emporia.

A funeral service will be held at Main Street Baptist Church on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 2:00pm.
