Obituary for Calvin Buchanan
Calvin Buchanan, age 79, of Emporia, VA, peacefully passed away on February 27, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 18, 1944, in Balty, VA, to the proud parents William and Bessie (Young) Buchanan.
Calvin dedicated 42 years of his life to the Carpenter Company, where he climbed the professional ladder to become the Chemical Manager. His commitment, diligence, and expertise were the hallmark of his career, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
On March 11, 2006, Calvin joined in matrimony with his beloved Sandra Harvey in Emporia, VA, embarking on a journey of love and companionship.
Upon retirement, Calvin cherished every moment spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and he relished in the simple pleasures of togetherness.
Calvin is survived by his devoted wife, Sandra Buchanan, his son Kelly (Camille), his daughters Amanda (Jason), Kallie, and Schylar, his stepchildren Tammy (Joanne) and David (Christine), as well as nine cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara Jean Harvey and Phyllis Howe, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Bessie Buchanan, his sisters Ellen, Lulu, Billie, Bobby, and Rusty, as well as his twin brother Alvin.
Calvin will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his gentle spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Services will be held Thursday, February 29th, with visitation @ 1pm and the funeral @ 2pm at Echols Funeral Home, Emporia, VA.
