Obituary for Betty Davis Bloom

Betty Rose Davis Bloom was born in Dallas, TX, on April 2nd, 1924 and remained loyal to her Texas roots throughout her 99 1/2 years. She moved to Emporia, Virginia after World War II when her husband of 58 years, Eugene Harold Bloom, returned home from serving his country.

After settling into life in Emporia, Betty joined her husband in many community activities and civic organizations, including The Riparian Women's Club, Little League & Pony League Baseball, volunteering in the local schools and with the Greensville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Betty's tireless dedication to the Hospital Auxiliary culminated in her being President of the local chapter, as well as the statewide organization. She received several awards for her many years of service to the Hospital Auxiliary. Betty was also a devoted member of Temple Emanu-El in Weldon, North Carolina.

Always one for new adventures, Betty embarked upon a career in real estate in her 50's. Betty also enjoyed playing golf, was an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, and enjoyed watching sports as she was especially fond of baseball and football, often cheering for her home team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Betty Bloom is survived by her son, The Honorable Stephen D. Bloom, his wife and beloved daughter-in-law, Valerie, her daughter, Diane Bloom McCabe, 5 granddaughters, Stephanie, Whitney and Victoria Bloom, Lauren (McCabe) Miller and Jessica McCabe, and four great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service on November 12th at 2:00pm at Greensville Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local foodbank or the charity of your choice.
