Allen Harris, 97 passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025 at the Villages at Woods Edge in Franklin, Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife of many years Tillie Harris and a devoted caretaker Lynn Phillips and many nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Etta and Bruce Harris and their son Mark Allen Harris and two brothers.
Allen was born in North Carolina and later moved to Virginia. He attended Wake Forest University and took leave from college to enlist in the United States Army where he was stationed in Japan.
After his tour of duty, he returned to Wake Forest University where he received his Degree in Business
Administration. While in service, Allen was a member on the US Army baseball team.
Upon finishing college, he went to work with his father and brother at their family-owned business Harris Hardware, for approximately 30 years.
Allen was a faithful member of Main Street Baptist Church for many years and served on the landscape and yard committee.
Allen became a member of the Emporia-Greensville Fire Dept. on May 5, 1955 and received numerous rewards, as well as, the outstanding Fireman's Award.
He was a member of the Country Club for many years and he loved to play golf and won many awards and trophies. His last year of playing golf he went to the club championship.
For the most part, Allen lived a full life after retirement and he and Tillie, whom he loved dearly, enjoyed many trips together as well as trips with some of their close friends.
A visitation for Allen will be Friday, April 25, 2025, starting at 10:00am at Main Street Baptist Church. A funeral service will immediately begin starting at 11:00am with Pastor Dr. Rick Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Greensville Memorial Cemetery with the Emporia Greensville Fire Department and Military Honors
Immediately following the graveside service everyone is invited to attend a reception at
Main Street Baptist church social Hall
