Obituary for David Lee Barnes

David Lee Barnes, born December 15, 1939, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 10, 2017.He is survived by his loving wife Bobbie T. Barnes, his loving and devoted daughter Patti Lynn Barnes, a brother Tommy Barnes of Oceanside, California, and two granddogs, Carmel and Bizzie.
A native of Emporia, Mr. Barnes was predeceased by his parents, Rufus T. and Ruth Hobbs Barnes and a sister Marguerite Hoskins. He retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections after 30 years of service and was a longstanding member of Three Shot Hunt Club. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Barnes joined American Legion Post # 46 in Emporia in 2003. During his 14 years of service with the Legion he served several terms as Commander and Vice-Commander, giving up his current term as Commander on June 30th of this year due to poor health. His passing has left a great void to Post # 46. RIP Brother David.
Funeral Services will be held Friday September 15th at 2 P.M. in the Chapel of Echols Funeral Home with Pastor Mitchell Norville officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Greensville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 P.M. untill 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
